Human Trafficking

Reading the article about human trafficking by Owen Weldon was very breath taking. I wasn't aware that so many people owned slaves today. I think that the idea of human trafficking is cruel and unfair. Im pretty sure that most of the slaves being held to work don't want to do what they are forced to do.
I think that it is great that google is giving millions of dollars to stop human trafficking."There are currently 27 million children,  women and men are held in slavery." I thought that we were done with slavery a long time ago. I don't understand why this is still going on. The number of slaves is way to high to even be true, people are forced to work for others that probably don't even care for them. Hopefully the money google just gave will make a huge impact on human trafficking because i'm sure if we were in their shoes we would want human trafficking to decrease.
Imagine you were  little girl  in africa just minding your own and you get kidnapped. you are helpless alone and scared wishing you weren't in this position. Now your being sold in the sex trade. No one wants to be in this position and unfortunately many people are.

Friendship ties

Friendship is like a knot. A knot held together by millions and millions of fibers, fibers representing each and every memory made by two friends. This is what saves the two friends that were almost separated by love and selfishness. In my book Something Like Fate  by Susane Colasanti Lani and Erin were best friends but then they let a boy get in and ruin their friendship. Erin was dating Jason but right when Lani laid eyes on him she felt a connection and he felt it too. When Erin went off to camp Jason broke up with Erin and started dating Lani. This situation got Erin mad and made their friendship into a disaster. But in the end friendship always prevails.
"you don't hate me anymore?"Erin smiles a little. It's the first time i've seen her smile since the whole disaster started." I can't hate you, Lani. There's too much history between us." The memories that Lani and Erin share are too strong and there are too many to try to cut through their strong friendship. I don't think that anyone will ever be able to stop there friendship They are way too close and after what they went through now makes it even harder for one to break their friendship. The only ones who could probably break their friendship is them and maybe that won't even work.
I'm not sure if our friendship is strong enough to survive into next year when we're away at college. But. We know each other in a way that no one else can. We share a history that makes us permanently connected. So i have hope for us. All i can do is hope. This shows that not only Erin realizes how strong their friendship is but Lani does too. If they both realize it then they will both still have each other in the back of their mind.

A Hint of Fate

You can't help who you have a special connection with. In my book Something like Fate by Susane Colasanti Lani and Jason have a special connection, the only problem is Jason is already taken by Erin, Lani's friend. Lani knows that she can't have Jason because he is already taken but she can't help the emotions and feelings going through her. Jason also feels that special connection which makes it even harder for them to hide it the only thing left t hope for is that no one gets hurt.
"Five minutes ago i felt horrible. I didn't want to talk to anybody. Now i'm laughing like nothing was ever wrong." When somebody you met a day ago can make you feel happy even when you feel down they are someone special to you a person with a connection. There are not many people that can make feel that way and when someone actually does you know that that person is not just any person, they care about you and know how to lift your spirits up. I know that when i feel down not just anybody can come up to me and make me laugh or smile, it's that special someone, someone that you like or love that has that power to make you feel on top of the world even in the hardest of times.
"When we get to the end of the line, Jason takes my lunch card.""It's on me." When he said this i was shocked, he met her a day ago and he is already buying her lunch, i mean i would understand if he actually knew her for longer but he has know her for about a day. You can tell by this that he is trying to show that he is a gentleman and that  he does in fact have feelings for her. It wasn't just a kind gesture this is one of those small things that show his feelings for her, although its not big, it's noticeable.
"Jason looks over at me and smiles. Something really intense is happening. It's so different from anything i've ever felt before that i don't even know what it is." This shows what Lani feels about Jason. This shows the strong connection they have. All he does is smile and then she feels the connection i think over time this connection will grow stronger and stronger and soon they will need to confront it, the good way, or the bad way.

lock and key

In Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen Ruby the main character feels lost. She is missing part of herself as well as her mom. For this reason she decides to sneak in the middle of the night from her sister's house to her own old yellow house. Although its not the best place to be that is where her missing parts are.
One of the reasons she feels lost is because she left part of herself  in the yellow house. She left her childhood memories and the good times. I would be crushed too if i had to leave my house so suddenly without saying goodbye. I have been living in the same house for twelve years and to this point i still can't imagine not living here. This house has memories that could never be replaced no matter how hard anyone tried to replace them. I understand that she misses her house but she can't go back because she is not eighteen and although she wants to say goodbye she should ask to go back to say goodbye. If she escapes she will not only feel bad but other people will be hurt too.
Another reason she feels lost is because she misses her mom. Although her mom wasn't the greatest mom she still was her mom and that is was counts. Ruby loved her mom and the house was the only thing that was left when her mom let. Ruby didn't act like she cared that her mom left but you could tell that she was torn inside. Knowing that your mom left and didn't come back for you must kill you inside. This is another reason why she feels lost and wants to go back to the yellow house.

Wish

In the book Wish by Alexandra Bullen Olivia(the main character) loves her sister with all of her heart. Even though her sister is dead it doesn't matter, all Olivia cares or thinks about is her sister. A piece of her is missing because of her sisters death.
One way that shows that Olivia loves her sister with all her heart is " olivia remembered squeezing Violet's hand as they walked up the long driveway back to the MSPCA, tears streaming from Violet's chin and careening onto the gravel." She remembers this specific memory with her sister when they were together in a thoughtful moment. This was a passionate moment between the tow sisters and that is why she remembers it. This shows her  love and emotion towards Violet.
Another wat that shows that Olivia loves her sister is "When Olivia had announced she wouldn't be taking this room, but the more ordinary, larger, street noisy room beside it, her parents hadn't argued. Nobody said anything, but they all knew. The smaller room was the one violet would have wanted." She had to be thinking of Violet this whole time to know that she wanted this room. Olivia loves her sister to the extent where she complete's her sisters wish even when she is not alive. This shows me that a strong bond at the beginning  can never be broken, no matter what.

The Hobbit

Bilbo Baggins ( the main character of this book) is a very nice hobbit. He has has very unique qualities, one of those unique qualities is his patience. He has a lot of patience. The reason i say that patience is unique is because some people don't have good patience. Bilbo Baggins does. In fact so far he has shown at least two scenarios were he had a lot of patience. I know that i don't have a lot of patience and to hear  about all of the things he goes through to still have patience left, i am amazed.
One reason why i think that Bilbo Baggins has patience is because fourteen people showed up at his house 2 minutes after each other."Dwalin at your service!""Balin at your service!" Kili at your service, and Fili!""At your service" Dori, Nori, Ori, Oin, and Gloin said one after another. And then there was Gandalf too with Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, and Thorin. Reading all of this made me overwhelmed so i could imagine how Bilbo Baggins felt when all of those people showed up at his house uninvited. I am not exactly fond of guest showing up out of no where so i can relate to Bilbo Baggins.
Another reason why i think that Bilbo Baggins has patience is because those people who came to his house did not only bring their selves but they also brought their appetite."A little red wine, i think for me.""And for me.""And raspberry jam and apple-tart."said Bifur."And mince-pies and cheese,"said Bofur.""And pork-pie and salad,"said Bombur."And more cakes-and ale-and coffee, if you don't mind,"called the other dwarves from the door."put on a few eggs, there's a good fellow!"Gandalf Called after Bilbo Baggins."And just bring out the cld chicken and the pickles!"Bilbo must have felt overwhelmed with all of those people telling him all these things at once. Just when people talk all at the same time my head starts spinning and i'm sure that is what happened to Bilbo Baggins, i can relate to him.
Bilbo is far too kind, a little too kind. When all those people were at his house he let everyone in and he listened when they said everything that they wanted to eat. He needs to stand up a little more for himself.

Just Listen

Just listen is a book about a girl named  Annabel. Annabel used to have everything but that soon changed when her friendship with Sophie ended and her sister's eating disorder is getting out of control. She is a shy girl and mostly keeps to herself. But when she meets Owen she learns to  grow and tell something she hasn't really told anyone, the truth.
In the book Just Listen by Sarah Dessen there are  many symbols. But just one of them stood out to me the most. When Whitney (Annabel's sister) is assigned to grow plants a symbol is hidden in there."I walked over to the window to look at the flower pots. The dirt in them was black and fragrant, spotted with fertilizer, and i could see beads of water here and there, glinting in the sunlight. Maybe it was a stupid exercise, and you couldn't grow things in the winter. But there was something i liked about the idea of those seeds, buried so deep, having at least a chance to emerge. Even if you couldn't see it beneath the surface, molecules were bonding, energy pushing up slowly, as something worked so hard all alone, to grow." I think that the plant in this is Annabel. Annabel is the plant who is going to grow and develop. But in Annabel's case stand up to Sophie and tell her what really happened that night. Just like a plant grows slowly and step by step that is how she is going to grow and become stronger as a person to stand up to Sophie. Annabel does starts off as a seed, hiding from everything but not fully protected from everything that is going on outside from her shell.
This symbol does not only speak to Annabel but to everyone. A lot of people start off shy and through their lifetime and become more social and outgoing. They grow through different experiences. For Annabel meeting Owen helps her grow, with out him she would still be hiding in that shell of hers. At the beginning of the book Annabel was shy she stays like that for quite some time. Almost everyone needs a little push to grow.
