Still i Rise

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/still-i-rise/\
In the poem Still I Rise by Maya Angelou she talks about all the things someone does to her but after that she rises. This shows me that  the theme of her poem is even if someone knocks you down you should get back up.
Maya Angelou is one of my favorite poets. A lot of her poems are encouraging like this one. In this poem she tells people that when you fall you should get back up. For example, "You may write me down in history With your bitter, twisted lies,You may trod me in the very dirt But still, like dust, I'll rise." Maya Angelou says you can say all these lies about me and trample me in the dirt but i will still get back up. To me she is very encouraging she tells the reader that even when someone does all of these horrific things to her she can still get back up, she won't let them win. Another example of this is , "You may shoot me with your words,You may cut me with your eyes,You may kill me with your hatefulness,But still, like air, I'll rise." Maya Angelou tells us that no matter how many things are thrown at her, it doesn't matter because she won't back down, she will rise. Even when hate itself is thrown at her and she falls she gets back up. It Doesn't matter if most of her is aching to give up she has to rise up from the ground.
In conclusion, the theme of Maya Angelou's poem is that if someone knocks you down you should get back up. When you think about it we all fall down sometimes but the trick is to get back up because if you stay on the ground you will never get anywhere. If you feel like giving up don't, in the end it's all worth it, because you have your future ahead of you and in the end you will go on with no regrets.
